Book news A taste of what's happening around the country.Roald Dahl Day on Monday08/09/2010 Roald Dahl Day takes place on Monday 13h September and schools can run a number of reading events and challenges based on Dahl's books. Puffin has also created a Matilda Assembly Pack, which you can download here. Teenage prize shortlist announced08/09/2010 The shortlist for the Booktrust Teenage Prize has been announced. The shortlist takes in Ancient Greece, a disease-ridden London, Malaga, New York, the Arctic Circle and post- independence Zimbabwe. The winner will be announced on 1 November. Early Years Awards announced08/09/2010 The winners of the Booktrust Early Years award have been announced. They are: (Best Book for Babies) I Love My Mummy by Giles Andreae and Emma Dodd; (Best Picture Book) One Smart Fish by Chris Wormell; and (Best Emerging Illustrator) The Django by Levi Pinfold. Readathon joins forces with Scholastic08/09/2010 National sponsored reading event Readathon has partnered with Scholastic to give schools that run a Readathon free books. Schools will be given a book voucher worth 20% of their donation, to spend at Scholastic Book Clubs. Book It! Cheltenham Festival08/09/2010 The Royal Shakespeare Company will be presenting a series of workshops at this year's Book It! children's festival, which forms part of the Cheltenham Festival. Authors including John Boyne, Judith Kerr and Robert Winston will also be appearing. National Poetry Day on 7th October08/09/2010 National Poetry Day is providing free teaching resources for National Poetry Day. Written by poet Mandy Coe, the resources are available from Monday 13 September from the National Poetry Day website, below. Public libraries to replace school library services?07/09/2010 The BBC reports that schools in Kent, which lost its School Library Service this summer, have been told to order books from their public library. Under the scheme, teachers will be able to borrow 100 books for eight weeks free of charge for students.
