About Author

Adeline Yen Mah was born in China on November 30th 1937 and now splits her time between London and Southern California. As well as being a writer, she is a fully qualified doctor and anaesthetist. Her first book for young people 'Chinese Cinderella' was published in 1999.

Adeline Yen Mah's family considered her to be bad luck because her mother died giving birth to her. They discriminated against her and made her feel unwanted all her life. They didn't even remember her birthday and, as a ten year-old, Adeline took her father's birthday as her own.

After her stepmother died in 1990, Adeline felt compelled to write her own life story. By her own admission, she had a difficult time trying to get Falling Leaves accepted for publication. When it was published, however, the book quickly started appearing on bestseller lists.

Having embarked on writing to exorcise the demons of her past, Adeline now finds herself with a new career. She is currently at work on her third book, which is entirely different to the other two and focuses on Chinese philosophy.
