Patrick Ness is up for a hat-trick for the Carnegie Medal with other shortlisted authors for the 2018 CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals - announced today - including Geraldine McCaughrean, Angie Thomas, Levi Penfold and Teckentrup.

A primary school in Renfrewshire where all teachers attend a month children's book club and most have studied children's literature to masters level has won the UKLA's Literacy school of the year award.

Books in translation shortlisted

The shortlist for the In Other Words award, which recognises outstanding books for children in translation, has been announced and includes eight stories with settings ranging from Iceland to Switzerland.

Wizards of Once wins Blue Peter Book Award

Cressida Cowell's book about wizards, warriors and magic has won the Blue Peter Book Award 2018 for the Best Story. The winners are announced today, World Book Day, and will be featured in a special Blue Peter programme tonight.

Writing competition for children, teenagers

Children and teenagers aged under 19 are invited to finish a story started by 2017 Branford Boase Award winner, Beetle Boy author M. G. Leonard for the Henrietta Branford Writing Competition. The competition will run until 21 April.
