Thirteen-year-old tweed-wearing detective Darkus Knightley's dad has gone walkies, leaving Darkus the family mutt - an ex-police dog - as his partner in crime solving. And they will both need their animal instincts for this case. I absolutely LOVED this book! The story was gripping and kept me in suspense the whole way through! The detailed description of both character and setting was excellent, offering me as a reader the opportunity to immerse myself into Darkus's world and imagine that I, too, was part of the mystery. The story was well plotted and carefully constructed and the characters complimented the storyline really well. There was lots of humour throughout the story too which I liked. I couldn't put this book down as there were so many cliffhangers; I had to read on! The end of the story was good. I felt it did end a little abruptly but with another great cliffhanger. I wanted to read on immediately to see what happened! I guess I'll have to wait for the next installment of Knightley and Son to find out what happens to Darkus... I would throughly recommend this book to readers around age 11. A rip-roaring mystery story. Good for both boys and girls.
