About Author

Kate DiCamillo is the author of the 2004 Newbery Medal-winning The Tale of Despereaux and Because of Winn-Dixie, which was recently made into a film. A writer of extraordinary lyricism and depth, Kate didn't begin writing until she was thirty years old, when she had an epiphany. "I wanted to tell stories," she says. "For six years I wrote and wrote and wrote. And most of what I wrote was bad. But here is the beautiful thing about doing something every day: you are bound to get better."
