Robert Rigby began his career as a journalist, and then spent several years in the music business as a songwriter and session musician.

He turned to writing for radio, television and the theatre and has also directed and performed in children's theatre throughout the country. He has become an established young people's playwright and his award-winning work with youth theatre companies has been seen in Britain, Europe, the USA and Africa.

His scripts for television include the long-running BBC children's drama series, Byker Grove.

Robert has teamed up with best-selling thriller writer Andy McNab to co-write a series of 4 action adventure books for young adults. The first of these, Boy Soldier was published in May 2005, soon followed by Payback and Avenger. To date the series has sold 275,000 copies in the UK. The last in the series, Meltdown will be published in May 2007.

He wrote the novelization of the movie, Goal!, and newly published Goal 2, for which he got the chance to walk out on to the famous Bernabéu pitch as part of his research!
