We are huge Hugless Douglas fans, so to read a Christmas edition was delightful. Hugless Douglas is a wonderful character and Melling (author) has ensured these stories are a sure-fire hit at every bedtime. In this special Christmas edition, Hugless Douglass wakes up really excited about Christmas. He is so excited that he goes around hugging all the trees. Douglass and his friends begin making a snowman and enjoy playing in the snow, until they hear a funny sound coming from a tree. Douglass soon makes friends with a new character and together they set out to find the perfect Christmas tree.

This is a delightful story about friendship and coming together at Christmas. The story has strong, positive messages about working together, laughing and sharing. My son (who is three) loved pointing to all the different Christmas images and laughing when the characters all fall down the hill together.

An honest and lovely Christmas message - 'just before bed, they shared a hug and searched the sky for Rudi' - and this is exactly what I do with my children on Christmas Eve. The new character is very sweet and uses his magic to help his new friends to find 'a Christmas miracle!'.

Beautifully illustrated with distinct and original images that truly capture the mood of the story, this is a story children will want to hear again. If you want a story to get children in the Christmas spirit, pick up a copy of Merry Christmas Hugless Douglas.
