CREATE A PICTURE BOOK COMPETITION

Overall Winner of the ReadingZone Picture Book Competition 2017

The Monkey who Learnt his Lesson by Indi (age 10) from Fairways Primary School in Leigh on Sea, was the overall winner of the ReadingZone Picture Book Competition 2017.

Indi did incredibly well to win the competition, which saw over 1,000 picture book entries from children around the UK and internationally. The standards were incredibly high this year.

Judge Neal Layton said The Monkey who Learnt his Lesson was a worthy winner and he had chosen it "mainly because of the way the story was told through text and image with such an individual and coherent voice".

Neal added that it had been one of the most difficult competitions he has had to judge because of the standard of all the entries. He said, "What I was looking for was not only a good story, and illustrations, but also some sense of the authorship of the child; I really wanted it to feel like it had come from them, and had the mark of their individual personalty on it."
