Diary of a Primary Reading Group Week 3
Year 1 & Foundation Stage teacher Lynnette Voisey volunteered to set up a reading group for her primary school, inviting Year 1-3 children to attend. Here, we follow how the book club developed during its first few weeks.
Week 3 and getting into a good routine now - biscuits and drinks first, then discussions begin. Apart from the few who forget their bag,or book, or forget their own book to show, the children are still excited about sharing their books and ideas.
I called up Reading Zone on the white board and spent time exploring the site. There is a lot on there! We explored book recommendations, read the latest blog from me and then settled upon a video of Jackline Wilson being interviewed as she was instantly recognized by the Year 2's.
This suited me as we have Authors in the first week back - Ronda Armitage and David Armitage of 'The Lighthouse Keepers’ fame.
Next it was onto the bookmark-making using a great Reading Zone feature (see link, below), which took a while to get all done but they were all pleased with their results - need to laminate for next week.
Ok, confession time; the biscuits are so beloved that the 'polite' queries for more were becoming very intrusive so I have had to resort to using a 5 min timer! Oh and there is always one spill of drink no matter how careful we are so keep to water - then it doesn't matter quite so much!
