Harry Potter is Blue Peter 'winner of winners'

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by JK Rowling has won the Blue Peter Winner of Winners Award. The winner of this year's award for the Best Story has also been announced - Vashti Hardy's Wildspark.

The Best Book with Facts was won by Rise Up: Ordinary Kids With Extraordinary Stories by Amanda Li and Amy Blackwell.

The Winner of Winners Award was launched to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Blue Peter children's book prize.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, published by Bloomsbury Children's Books, was chosen as the ultimate winner by hundreds of UK children who voted via the Blue Peter website.

The shortlist of ten titles included some of the best and most loved children's books, including Matilda, The Gruffalo and The Story of Tracey Beaker. The award was given out on the show as part of Blue Peter's World Book Day celebrations.

Over 6,000 copies of J.K. Rowling’s magical story were sold last week during the run-up to World Book Day, making it the bestselling fiction title outside of the £1 World Book Day titles.

A recent poll of primary school pupils also saw the Harry Potter series take the top seven spots of favourite books.
