Emma Chichester Clark has written another superb tale about Lily and Blue Kangaroo. In this story Lily is not behaving her best. Lily spends the day showing off to Blue Kangaroo, doing lots of things that grown ups around her tell her not to. As a result, Lily finds herself getting into trouble and upsetting everyone around her including Blue Kangaroo when he's left in the garden damaged. Mum finds Blue Kangaroo in the garden and takes him in to fix him. It's when Lily realises what she has done that mum tells her that she can't have Blue Kangaroo back until she learns to behave better. If you've ever had one of those days when your children are doing everything you don't want them to, then this is the bedtime read for you. I really liked the way that Emma Chichester shows a realistic reaction to those difficult behaviours that we all have to endure at different times and how Lily tries hard to be good in order to get Blue Kangaroo back. I have read this with my little girl and although she is quite young, I think it'll be one I'll bring out again and again. I'll show you Blue Kangaroo creates lots of opportunities to discuss thinking about your actions first and that the consequences of showing off are not always the best. With my own children and class children alike, Blue Kangaroo books are going to a permanent fixture for regular reading. Picture book / Ages 3+ / Reviewed by Marie Berry, teacher.
