Geek Girl launches on Netflix in May

The trailer has just launched for Netflix's upcoming Geek Girl series, based on the best-selling coming-of-age book series by Holly Smale.  Netflix show Geek Girl will launch on the channel in the UK next month, from Thursday 30th May.  The series follows the book's plotline with awkward, geeky 16-year-old Harriet Manners catching the eye of a modelling agent while on a school trip to London Fashion Week.

'Tightly wound agents, reclusive designers, impossibly high heels, and a handsome young supermodel with a great smile – socially awkward Harriet has no idea what she's in for!'

The series stars House of the Dragon's Emily Carey as Harriet Manners, with Sarah Parish as Jude Paignton; Emmanuel Imani as Wilbur Evans; Liam Woodrum as Nick Park; and Zac Looker as Toby Pilgrim.

The streamer will adapt Holly Smale’s series of novels into a 10-part series.  The project is a British-Canadian co-production made by RubyRock Pictures and Aircraft Pictures.  It was filmed last summer in London and the actors were spotted in Ottawa, Canada, in July.

Geek Girl was Holly Smale's debut novel; her own career as a teenage model, and the bullying she experienced at school, provided the inspiration for the storyline. Geek Girl went on to win the Waterstones YA Book Prize, selling 3.4 million books in 30 languages.
