Amy - Age 10

This has such detailed pictures- faces in trees, roses, briars - each spread has so much to see and explore. The gold thorns are made to look really sharp and threatening, but the flowers make them look more gentle. The pictures work so well with the story and help to bring it to life. Anyone could read and enjoy this book!

Ruth - Age 10

It's beautiful! The detail in each face is incredible - you see something new each time you look. I love the way the roses and rose bushes are a theme making their way through the book. The gold specks for the thorns really catch the light - and your attention - giving relief from the black and white drawings. The bodies caught in the bushes are softened by the flowers surrounding them. The picture of the queen skiing the princess is interesting as it shows that she is trying to save her. Again, the theme of flowers appears in her hair - there are so many details that link the story together and link different parts of different fairy tales. It's a very beautiful, special book.
