Reviews

Nathan

21% Monster: Serpent Strike by P. J. Canning is the third book in this epic science fiction, thriller series. The previous two books have been incredible, and Serpent Strike, I would argue, is even better! Easily a 5 star review, full of excitement, relatable characters and a great plot!

The story continues following the superhuman Helix 51 children: Daren, Marek, Aurora and Genie. Throughout the series, the team have grown in numbers and now they are stronger than ever to fight back against Xastris; the organisation that transformed them but wants to end them. However, Xastris has a powerful, threatening and life-changing plan to change and control the world forever. Everyone's life depends on Daren Devlin and his friends.

The characters in this book are very relatable and diverse, providing children with good role models who use intelligence, empathy and team work to solve problems. This series brilliantly celebrates diversity and an inclusive culture.  There are many moral dilemmas and themes that could be explored and spark interesting discussions with older children including advanced technology in society, justice, friendship, difference etc.

21% Monster: Serpent Strike would be a perfect page-turning read for children ages 10+ and adults who enjoy fast-paced, thought-provoking science fiction stories with action-packed adventure and bucket loads of suspense. I would highly recommend this book, in fact, the whole series. I am just hoping there is more to come for P.J. Canning and Helix 51!
