Alberta: A Cautionary Tale offers a twist on the classic Little Red Riding Hood tale. This story follows Alberta - a little girl who doesn't listen to her mother and always gets her own way. She follows an interesting stranger into the woods (who happens to be little red riding wolf), befriends them and steals and eats their cake! After teasing the wolf and being unwilling to apologise, Alberta realises she can't always get her own way and that smiling and crying don't always work!
A surprising twist to the moral fairy tale, this book provides an entertaining read and an opportunity to discuss the importance of listening and the potential danger of strangers, as well as inviting comparisons with the traditional story of Little Red Riding Hood.
