Listen to the Pets - part of the 'Listen to the…' series - is a sound book which consists of the sounds of 5 common animals. It is not often that books contain real-life animal sounds, so this realistic book is definitely a special one! A great introductory book for pets, this book can be particularly useful to use if you're going to visit a relative or friend who may have a pet. You can use the illustrations to talk about what the pet might look like, what they may be playing with and where they might choose to sleep.

The hide and seek sound buttons then provide the multi-sensory element, where the children can hear the animals. The bark of a dog might be alarming for a child on a first encounter; this book is a great way of preparing children for these new sounds.

This collection of books is especially valuable for children who may take a while to warm up to different environments and may be sensitive to changes in sounds in their surroundings. These books allow our children to hear real-life sounds to prepare them well for what they may be about to go and encounter. As we know, helping our children to know what to expect is a great way of reducing any anxiety-led behaviours.  This whole collection relates to sounds you might encounter on a day out, for example, the farm, seaside, baby animals and jungle.

My little one's favourite part of this board book is the final page where there is one button which, when pressed, activates the sound of one of the animals at random. My little one loves pointing to the picture of the animal she can hear as we attempt to join in with the sounds - the horse sound being a particularly interesting one to copy!
