Football is everything for Sam and his dad, they live and breath it. At the weekends his dad supports him as he plays; he never misses a game. However, dad sometimes forgets and gets carried away, celebrates Sam's achievements and then real life kicks in. Money... it's always the same, dad promises, mom tries to work out how to pay for it all. That's when the arguments start. When it gets bad, Sam loses himself watching re-runs of Aaron Ramsey, his football hero. It helps calm him down and stops 'The Bad' from swarming through his head. But no matter how tough life is, they still have football, that is until a chance of footballing stardom for his dad goes horribly wrong. Will dad still be there for Sam? Will things ever get back to being the same?
Me and Aaron Ramsey is a tender, moving novel which is set in Wales. Throughout the book the author helps the reader to explore the themes of friendship, football, illiteracy, hope and a relationship between a father and his son, and provides many opportunities for discussion. This is a thought-provoking read for both keen and reluctant readers that addresses real life issues mixed with a little fantasy.
