Oh No They Aren't: Nature succeeds in offering a new take on the bewildering beauty and variety of life on Earth, by challenging readers' assumptions or supposed know-how. Weren't dodos slow and simple-minded? All sharks are fearsome predators, aren't they? It's quiet beneath the waves, isn't it?

There's humour too, in abundance, both in the illustrations and in the text which, together with attractive and helpful design elements (speech bubbles, varied fonts, bold typeface, etc) make it a pleasure to read. Children don't need to be keen naturalists to enjoy this book. It's one to dip into again and again; and one to share with friends and family members.

Teachers, too, will find it a useful addition to their classroom book corners and might even share tidbits of information when teaching Geography or Science; the concluding Glossary and Geological Timeline being helpful additions. Recommended for ages 7-9 years / LKS1 and KS2.
