Reviews

Jemma

Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr is a fabulous book for anyone; Muslims looking to get inspiration for ways to celebrate Eid al- Fitr with their children, non-Muslim families who want to encourage an understanding of world religions, and anyone working in childcare or primary education to add to their class library.

It is a beautiful recount of how Raya, a young Muslim girl, and her family celebrate Ramadan. Some of the differences between how children and adults may experience Ramadan are highlighted, which I feel is important in a children's book.

Woven into the story are lots of facts about Islam and some real photos of beautiful mosques.  The bold illustrations are really cheerful and my daughter enjoyed doing the quiz at the end. She was also very keen to look at more photos of mosques on the internet, inspired by their stunning architecture.

This book is the perfect introduction to these Muslim practices and accessible for a wide-range of ages; it can be a read-aloud to younger children, while older children will enjoy reading it themselves. We highly recommend Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr by Sara Khan.
