The Hunger Games meets Jurassic Park in this wildly popular series filled with action, survival and betrayal.
Rebel is the concluding book of the excellent Extinction Trials. Once again, the author has cleverly written a pacy, rollercoaster ride of an adventure that will engage all levels of readers, including adults. Approximately Six months have passed since the end of book 2, Exile. Things didn't turn out as planned for Lincoln, as the cure for the plague that he returned home with has caused further problems for Earthasia. Now there is less food and people are starving. Riots break out amongst the people and Silas, the Chief Stipulator, is losing control. In order to survive Lincoln must get his family and friends on board a ship, which is heading for Piloria! Meanwhile, Storm and Reban are still adapting to their new surroundings and have quickly learned how to survive on the dinosaur-ridden continent. They have discover that the viruses that they previously planted to destroy the main predators have not had the expected results... it has made one species faster, stronger and more intelligent. Four hundred people have just landed, how are they going to cope and with this new environment? With all the noise that they make they are going to be breakfast, lunch and dinner for the main predators! The dinosaurs, however are not the only danger - power hungry Silas will not listen to reason and take advice and causes another threat to the people that have just landed. Rebel has 371 well written pages that contain mild violence, death, dangerous animals, politics and fantastic characters that have developed through the series. This fantasy adventure will engage all level of readers from 11+ and will be great for intervention groups and book clubs as once again it has many discussion points. Oh, one more point... if you are scared of spiders, be warned, there is a scene that even gave me the creeps, I definitely wouldn't want to come across these eight legged critters!! Rebel is a fantastic read, along with the rest of the series, I couldn't put it down. I'm going to miss these characters and the amazing dinosaurs of Piloria. In my opinion, one of the best reads so far in 2019. 384 pages / Ages 11+ / Reviewed by Linda Brown, school librarian
