As reading lead for the junior school that I work out, I am always on the hunt for engaging books that delve into the etymology (origin) and history that makes up the English language. What a Wonderful Phrase does exactly this! Enticing illustrations adorn each double-page layout, which details common idioms (phrases) from a variety of origins including: French, Greek and Russia and how they came about. Each phrase is given in the native tongue (including a breakdown to help the reader pronounce it accurately) and the English translation. Full of interesting facts and written in an accessible fashion, this book would be great to accompany word study, a history lesson or as a class reader. There is something for everyone. A must have for the class bookshelf.
