Astrid Lindgren nominations announced

Michael Rosen, Quentin Blake, David Almond, Juno Dawson, Malorie Blackman and Emily Gravett are among the UK authors and illustrators nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2021,the world's largest children's literature award (worth over USD 500k).
The 20 shortlisted names from the UK are among 263 international nominations for the award - 20 of those from the UK, including organisations the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education and Arts Council of Wales (ACW).
The award also includes those who campaign for reading, for example Michael Rosen, Aidan Chambers and Daniel Hahn.
As well as her work as an author, Verna Wilkins has spent her life in publishing supporting and developing diversity in children's books.

The award is given annually to a single laureate or to several.
Authors, illustrators, oral storytellers and reading promoters are eligible.
The award is designed to promote interest in children's and young adult literature.
The laureate(s) are chosen by experts from candidates nominated by institutions and organisations all over the world.
The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was founded by the Swedish government in 2002 and is administrated by the Swedish Arts Council.
