Literature Wales has launched the search for the first Children's Laureate Wales for 2019-2021, reports The Bookseller magazine.

The two-year post is open to Wales-based writers. The Laureate will focus on making literature fun for children of all backgrounds and abilities, and will work alongside the Welsh-language children's laureate, Bardd Plant Cymru. Literature Wales's new Strategic Plan (2019-2022) highlights Children and Young people as one of its main priorities. The role of Children's Laureate Wales will be to engage and inspire children through literature as well as being a national ambassador for Wales. The focus of the role will be working with children and young people aged 5-13 years, encouraging creativity and self-expression. There will also be an emphasis on advocating representation, equality and the well-being of the future generations of Wales. Literature Wales c.e.o. Lleucu Siencyn said: "Children are natural storytellers and are curious and inquisitive about the world around them. We are excited to appoint a Children's Laureate Wales who will inspire the younger generation to fall in love with the magic of words, and to give their voices and opinions on the issues that affect them and their generation the platform they deserve." Expressions of interest are welcomed from writers across all literary forms, from poetry to prose, graphic novels and spoken word. The deadline for submissions is 12pm on Thursday 11th July. Literature Wales expects the Children's Laureate Wales to take up the post from September 2019. Further information is available here:
