The Egmont Reading for Pleasure Teacher Awards 2019 have been launched, looking for teachers and schools whose practice supports children's reading for pleasure.

Egmont Publishing runs the awards in partnership with The Open University and UK Literacy Association. The award aims to recognise teachers and schools whose practices make a real difference to children's reading for pleasure. The award categories include: Early Career teacher, Experienced teacher, and a Whole School award. The winner of each category will receive 250 of Egmont books for their school, and there are 20 copies of Help Your Child Love Reading by Alison David to be won. The deadline for entries is Monday 21st January, and the winners will be announced on 16th March at the OU/UKLA Reading for Pleasure Conference in London. Entrants will need to submit a research-informed case study of up to 1,500 words on how they have encouraged children to read for pleasure. You can find further details via the flier, which you can download, below. Last year's winners and runners-up exemplified research-informed pedagogy and practice that ensured children had environments, time, resources and support to read for pleasure. The winners included Jon Biddle at Moorlands Primary Academy (Winner of Experienced teacher category); Emily Crumbleholme - Peover Superior (Winner of Early Career teacher category) and Sonia Thompson and Paulette Osborn at St Matthews CofE (Whole School award). The judges of this year's award are Joy Court, Chair; Teresa Cremin, Professor of Education, The Open University; Alison David, consumer insight director, Egmont Publishing; Andy Stanton, author; Fiona Evans, head of schools programmes, NLT; Cally Poplak, managing director, Egmont Publishing; and David Reedy, UK Literacy Association Download the leaflet for information on how to enter.
