The future for teacher training conference

An upcoming Westminster Education Forum seminar on 2nd March will explore Initial Teacher Education in England, including implementing the core content framework and the future of Qualified Teacher Status.

The conference will take place on Thursday 2nd March, 9am-1pm, in central London and is CPD certified. Stakeholders and key policymakers will discuss the future for Initial Teacher Training (ITT) in England following the publication of 'A framework of core content for ITT'. Stephen Munday, chair of the Independent Expert Group on a New Core Content Framework for ITT and chief executive of the Comberton Academy Trust, will deliver a keynote address at the conference. Sessions will explore the key recommendations from the core content framework and assess the progress of its implementation. Further sessions will explore plans outlined by the Government to focus on equipping new teachers entering the classroom with practical behaviour management skills and a better understanding of special educational needs. Proposed changes to the awarding of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) will also be discussed, including the role of headteachers, School-centred ITT and Ofsted in the new form of accreditation. Additionally, steps to support teacher development, improve CPD and promote engagement with academic research will be explored. Other speakers will include Dr Adam Boddison, chief executive, nasen; Catherine Roche, chief executive, Place2Be; Alison Ryan, senior policy adviser, ATL; Annette Smith, chair, Council for Subject Associations; Professor Samantha Twiselton, director of Institute of Education, Sheffield Hallam University and member, Expert Advisory Panel for the Carter Review and the ITT Behaviour Group; and Professor Chris Wilkins, Director of Teacher Education, University of Leicester.
