Writing competition from Collins Big Cat

Collins Big Cat - a whole-school reading programme - is challenging pupils from schools around the world to write a 300-500-word fictional story about bravery and courage in English. The competition closes on 21 December and there are some great prizes to be won.

The competition is free to take part in and is open to schools around the world, including the UK and Ireland, Europe, Middle East, Asia, Americas, Caribbean, Africa and Australasia. The stories will be judged by award-winning authors Chris Bradford and Joanna Nadin and there are two categories: Category 1: Pupils aged 5 - 7 (UK Key Stage 1) Category 2: Pupils aged 7 - 11 (UK Key Stage 2) Schools can submit up to two entries each; one entry per category. There will be a regional final where a winning school for each category will be chosen in each of the eight global regions. The regional winners will be shortlisted to compete for the Grand Final prize where one overall winner will be chosen from each category. The Regional finalists' will see their story published on the Collins website and receive goodie bags filled with books about bravery and courage; 200 worth of Collins books; and an engraved shield. In addition to these prizes, the Grand Final Winners will win a trophy for the school and have their winning stories transformed into a video, read aloud by a Collins Big Cat author.
