Awful Auntie is another fun and thoroughly entertaining story from David Walliams that also comes with plenty of heart. The story follows Stella who has been orphaned following the death of her parents, Lord and Lady Saxby, in a car crash. Then there is her awful Aunt Alberta of the title, who is planning to trick Stellar out of her inheritance. The a range of interesting support characters includes Soot, a ghostly chimney sweep, and Gibbon, the butler, as well as Wagner, Alberta's Owl. Alberta loves owls - although she has an awful lot of stuffed owls, reflecting what a truly awful person she is. Stella has her work cut out in trying to outsmart her aunt, with the help of a friend or two, and keep her inheritance. Children who loved Walliams' earlier books will thoroughly enjoy this story, as will readers who are coming to his books for the first time. A fun and warm story. 416 pages / Ages 8+ / Reviewed by Claire Hunt.
