Fans of Trash will also enjoy Liquidator, the new book from author Andy Mulligan whose earlier book as also been made into a film. Like Trash, Liquidator is told from various points of view and also like the first book, the pace never lets up as the protagonists face one life-threatening situation after another. It begins harmlessly enough, with a group of students being allocated their placements for work experience. Some are pleased, some not so, especially Vicky who arrives late and is assigned to sandwich-making for local businesses. But when Vicky discovers that she will be making sandwiches for high-flying execs at a well-known corporate, which represents the highly popular fizzy drink, Liquidator, her opinions change and she imagines opportunities unfolding for her. However, an accident with a lap top finds Vicky and her friends uncovering some very dodgy dealings in the corporate world surrounding Liquidator which have already put the life of a young African boy at risk. By going public with their claims, the group of school children also put their own lives on the line - but they are determined to both save the boy, and broadcast the corruption at the heart of Liquidator. This is a very engaging read with lots to discuss about corporate responsibility and corruption. The way the story is delivered and the short chapters would suit reluctant as well as keen readers. 416 pages / Ages 11+ / Reviewed by Carol Brown.
