If there was ever a book for being 'Emotional Rollercoaster of the Year' this would be it. The truthfulness and sometimes humour of the book balance out the truly heart-breaking moments. The biggest emotional moment would have to be when Jamie, Jas and their Dad bury Roger, the cat. This is the moment that brings to a head all the pain and suffering Jamie's family have gone through during the past five years. It is the time Jamie finally feels the hurt that his father has had to deal with and he cries for the first time in five years. This moment also serves to bring the family closer together and they finally understand what each of them has been going through. It is hard to believe that this is Annabel Pitcher's first book because she writes in such a beautiful and compelling way, that the words just dance across the page making this book very hard to put down. In conclusion, this book is a must read that will bring tears of sadness and tears of laughter to your eyes. It will leave you grasping for more and more. The character of Jamie, is portrayed in a fabulous way and it is a character that you will grow to love. There is even a short story at the end from , Jamie's 15 year old sister, Jas's point of view which allows the reader to get under her skin too. A fabulous book, not the happiest of endings but a strong one none the less. I urge you to pick this book up and read it.
