About Author

Jenny Smith currently lives in South Oxfordshire with her husband and two young sons, and a small and aggressive West Highland terrier called Angus. She was born and brought up in Glasgow where she went on to study English Literature and Psychology at University.

In her early twenties, Jenny worked in Africa for a well known overseas relief and development charity, before joining the school text book publishers Heinemann in the early 1990s. During this time she ran the New Windmills Book Club, organising author visits to schools. It was here that Jenny met and was inspired by childrens authors Anne Fine, Dick King-Smith and Nigel Hinton.

In 2004 she became a grants and trusts fundraiser for Oxfordshire childrens grief support charity SeeSaw. She also works as a freelance copywriter and has volunteered with the Samaritans

In early 2007 she was meant to be writing a website for a DIY firm as a major freelance job, but when the job fell through, she jumped on the opportunity to write instead. A friend suggested it, saying Youre funny, you should write funny. In six weeks she completed the first draft of Diary of a Parent Trainer, her debut novel which will be published by Scholastic Childrens Books in March 2011.

Jenny writes during school hours when freelance work allows. And in the evenings. And sometimes very early in the mornings.

She appeared twice on Dave Gormans radio comedy show Genius, and thinks humour is under-rated.

When she is 80 Jenny plans to go tornado chasing.
