Meet Squirrel and Bird, introduced by Laura Baker
This is Squirrel, and this is Bird . . . Squirrel is very LOUD, while Bird is very quiet . . . or are they? Laura Baker explores labels and visual literacy in Squirrel and Bird, illustrated by Stacey Thomas.
In her new picture book, Squirrel and Bird (Little Tiger), Laura Baker shows how we can sometimes make assumptions about those we meet, and give them a label that we feel describes them - even though each of us are many different things.
The Narrator in Squirrel and Bird tells us that Squirrel is LOUD and Bird is quiet; that Squirrel is busy and bird is still; but as we turn the pages, we start to wonder if the narrator has got something wrong....
Laura Baker introduces Squirrel and Bird through these videos, helping us to get to know the characters and understand the main themes she explores through the picture book, as well as showing us how the words in a story can sometimes say one thing while the pictures tell a very different story. Laura also shares her favourite section in the story.
