Martin Brown
About Author
Martin Brown is best known for his illustrations of the best-selling Horrible Histories series.
Martin is from Australia where he grew up a suburban boy in Melbourne, Australia. Ever since he can remember, he's been doodling drawing cartoons. This enthusiasm for non-stop doodling and his love of TV cartoon shows, especially Bugs Bunny, made his future career obvious.
Following school Martin went to college to become an art teacher but didn't complete the course. Instead he spent a couple of years working in a television studio before following in the footsteps of thousands of young Aussie backpackers and taking off around the world. He didn't plan to stay in London but soon settled and started working.
Martin decided to see if he could make a living from the very thing he liked doing most, drawing. It was a slow start at first, the occasional cartoon or greetings card, but the work built up through magazines, books and more cards. He turned up at Scholastic one day and got the job to illustrate Peter Corey's Coping with Parents. That started a long and happy relationship with Scholastic and the rest, as they say, is (Horrible) History!
Martin now lives with his wife Sally and their two daughters Emmy and Bella in a lovely house in the heart of the Dorset countryside. And although they don't have any pets, the garden is full of rabbits!
The Horrible Histories combine the wicked humour of Terry Deary's text with Martin's unmistakable wit in illustration.
