Paul Dowswell
About Author
Described by the Times as one of the best new writers of historical fiction for children, Paul Dowswell is a regular visitor to schools throughout the UK.
Starting his working life as a researcher for museums and information books, Paul spent 15 years writing and editing non-fiction (Usbornes True Stories and Newspaper Histories, among many others) before turning to fiction with Bloomsbury Publishing in 2005.
His book Auslander, about an adopted Polish boy in Nazi Germany, has won six regional and international book awards, been shortlisted for a total of 20 awards and taken him to Europe and Australia.
Pauls school events include illustrated book talks on Auslander, teenagers in Cold War East Berlin (Sektion 20), and the life of ships boys in Nelsons Navy (The Powder Monkey trilogy).
Paul also gives creative writing classes on school visits, has recently been working with Warwick University Young Researchers programme, and spent five years teaching creative writing at the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham.
His seventh novel for Bloomsbury, set during the First World War, is due to be published in Autumn 2012.
