Philip Caveney

About Author

Philip Caveney was born in 1951 in North Wales but moved home frequently while he was growing up as a result of his father being stationed at various RAF bases around the country.

When his parents were stationed at a base in Malaya, Philip was enrolled at The Kings School, a boarding school outside Peterborough. His experiences of boarding school life - 'a harsh regime, tyranny and oppression' - were, he jokes, a source of ample material for the crime and horror novels that he would go on to write as an adult. At sixteen he left The Kings School for Art College in North Wales. Here he promptly rebelled against years of rigid discipline in the time-worn tradition: by growing his hair and forming a rock band, Hieronymous Bosch.

After moving to London with the band to seek fame and fortune, Philip wrote his first attempt at a novel, Nathan Storm. Though never published, Nathan Storm did get him an agent who nurtured him through several other early attempts. His first bona fide novel, The Sins of Rachel Ellis was published in 1978. Philip has since gone on to publish several crime and horror novels, including Strip Jack Naked and Bad to the Bone.

It was only after his young daughter asked to read one of his books that Philip considered writing for children. He began to write Sebastian Darke chapter by chapter, with feedback from his daughter along the way, and it soon took on a life of its own.
