A fast-paced adventure full of car chases, arson and cake! The old gilt-edged mirror has hung in Alex's aunt's house for as long as he can remember. Alex hardly notices it, until the day he and his sister are pulled through the mirror, back into 1912. It's the same house, but a very different place to live, and the people they meet need their help. Soon they're caught up in car chases and treasure hunts as they race to find a priceless golden cup - but will they ever be able to return to their own time? From multi-award-winning author Sally Nicholls, A Chase In Time is the first in a brilliant time-slip adventure series for 7+ readers, beautifully illustrated inside by Rachael Dean, with cover illustrations by Isabelle Follath.

An excellent adventure book with an intriguing storyline. When two children fall through a large mirror, hanging in the hallway of their auntie's house, it leads them to a problem which has to be solved in order to get back home!

The story begins with the two main characters - Alex and Ruby Pilgrim - going to stay with their Aunt Joanna. She owns a B & B, Applecott House, which they stay at for 2 weeks each summer. This year, however, they get transported (through the mirror) back to Edwardian times - 1912. Here they meet some of their ancestors including Atherton and Mary. Atherton is such a lovely, quirky character, who collects unusual artefacts from around the world and Mary is his dutiful fiancee.

The two children find themselves caught up in an adventure, trying to find a thief who has stolen the Newbury Cup. A burning stable, suspicious characters and a surprise discovery, all bring excitement to a lively story.

Sally Nicholls' excellent storytelling brings a glimpse of what the Edwardian period was like. Children aged 7 upwards who like adventures, and going back in time, will absolutely love A Chase in Time.
