Reviews

Sarah

This a lovely illustrated version of the traditional Aesop's Fables. The collection includes tales such as; Two Travellers and the Bear, The Hare and the Tortoise, The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Donkey in the Lion's Skin, The Dog and His Reflection, The Baboon and the Fox, The Peacock and the Crane, The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse. Each story is beautifully illustrated, perfect for children to read along to, with the pictures supporting each story and allowing children to get the most from each tale. This book would make a beautiful gift for a child and be a great choice for bedtime stories. I remember hearing lots of these tales as a child, either at bedtime or in school assemblies. I was therefore surprised when I took this book into my classroom only to find that the children had never heard any of the Aesop's Fables in it. In determination to keep theses fables alive and be passed on through generations, I will definitely be keeping this one close by for last minute assemblies and any 10 minute slots of spare time. This book is great to have in the classroom when studying any other traditional/folktales as a point of comparison. We recently looked at African folktales as part of our Africa topic and in the past I have studied Aboriginal dreamtime stories with class when working on Australia topic. Suitable for any age as a bedtime story, or lower KS2 as an independent read.
