As a child, Agatha would share a story each afternoon with her mother, often creating a better ending herself. When war started, Agatha had to put reading her detective novels aside to help wounded soldiers. However, she learnt much about poisons during this time which she later put to good use in her writing. After the war, she created her famous detectives, Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, writing some of the best loved detective fiction ever. Offering a basic biography of Agatha Christie, the book is wonderfully illustrated in black and white, with touches of red on each page. It includes a timeline at the back, using photographs and adding more detail. One of a series of books about women who have achieved great things in their lives, this one shows how Agatha absorbed and used experiences from her own life in her writing. It is an attractive introduction to the life of one of the greatest writers of all time. 32 pages / Ages 5+ / Reviewed by Sue Wilsher, teacher.
