This book just shines with summer vibes. Aqua Boy is the story of Aaron who lives with his parents and older sister on a glorious sunny coastline. His parents are Ocean Guardians; they look after the beach, the sea and the wildlife that lives in it. Aaron loves the water but is not ready to put his head under. However, when he finds a beached Octopus who keeps staring at him while Dad rescues it, he is inspired to follow it back into the water.... and right underneath the waves.

This is a very simple story of being brave, facing your fears and the rewards you can reap once you do. It's also a great conversation starter about marine pollution, recycling and our duty to care for the creatures whose habitats we share. The language is simple and easily understood. The pictures are bright and cheerful- I almost felt I could dip my toes in that bright blue ocean.

Aqua Boy would be suitable for any EYFS or Key Stage One topic on the seaside or habitats, or recycling. It is also a good resource for a 'people who inspire us' assembly, as there is a link at the end where you can find out more about Ocean Guardians and their work around the world. Perfect for a classroom library or a lovely gift for a budding marine biologist.
