Jenny Pearson has written another smasher for Barrington Stoke with her latest adventure Bigfoot and the Wild Boys. The main protagonists, Joe, and best friend Tiago, are inspired by celebrity 'Wildman Mike' to become adventurers themselves. They are determined to explore their local woods, capture the infamous Bigfoot monster who is reputed to be hiding there, and become famous themselves.
This story is a mixture of adventure, resilience and humour. The tale is told from Joe's perspective and Jenny Pearson has managed to capture the personality of a youngster; part curious, part comedic, part courageous, part impetuous. The plot is full of unexpected twists as things don't turn out quite as the boys expected, but their friendship remains solid despite the challenges they face. The interplay between the boys is one of the most appealing features of the story.
This book has been written using a super-readable approach and published utilising a dyslexia friendly format. The author has made good use of spacing and illustrations by Aleksei Bitskoff help to both break up the text and enhance the story. Bigfoot and the Wildboys is highly recommended for primary school-aged students.
