Bruce Lee is one of the newest biographies in the 'Little People, Big Dreams' series. I have read a number of titles in this series and they are a fantastic insight for children into the lives of famous icons; scientists, artists, cultural representatives, pioneering inventors and more. Each beautifully presented and carefully written to enable young readers to access and enjoy. The story of Bruce Lee follows suit with the others in the series. The information on each page is brief but to the point and with just the right amount of factual, interesting information for a young reader to get a good understanding of the key moments in Bruce Lee's life. The end pages are great! Bright, bold illustrations depicting milestones in Bruce's vibrant lifetime. Bustos's unique illustrations span over each double page spread and I love that many of them have been created using lots of different shades of the same colour. This book has a place in the classroom for illustrations alone as this would be great to share with children in both KS1 and 2 when introducing them to mixing colours and making shades. The text is kept simple, although there is definitely enough there for both adults and children to learn something they didn't know before. For example, we learn that Bruce Lee was born in San Francisco but raised in Hong Kong, and the nurse at the hospital where he was born actually gave him the English name Bruce. He was also a talented dancer as well as a child actor and was involved with gangs as a teenager. I really enjoyed reading this title and I'm sure it will be enjoyed in the classroom, too. The stories in the Little People Big Dreams series are fantastic at highlighting hard work and perseverance in order to succeed and achieve your dreams. 32 pages / Ages 5+ / Reviewed by Nikki Stiles, teacher
