Reviews

Sue

In Celebrations and Festivals: Christmas, readers are introduced to Charlie and his family as they prepare for and celebrate Christmas, from the lighting of Advent candles to Christmas Day.  Bright, colourful illustrations accompany each page as the family put up decorations, choose their tree, bake and share Christmas joy.

The story of the Nativity and the birth of Jesus is at the heart of the book, with other customs and traditions of the season explored around this. Once Charlie has shared how his family celebrates Christmas, there are additional pages which explain why Christmas is important, tell the story of the first Christmas and look at Christmas around the world.

There are also instructions for some festive activities and a quiz. Clear and concise, told in a very accessible and child-friendly manner, this little book would make an excellent addition to school libraries and bookshelves as well as being a lovely book to share at home.
