Choices follows a little girl as she makes several decisions whilst visiting the swimming pool for the day. From insignificant small choices of choosing a hair band, to decisions which affect you longer term like using sun-cream, this picture book introduces children to the concept of choices and decisions in a simple and understandable way.
The book’s illustrations support the message of the story very well by portraying a lot of the situations where decisions are necessary. The pages almost become a 'spotting' activity, where children need time to process the story text and look for examples in the pictures.
This is a great book to use with younger children to promote choice and to use as a starting point to develop discussions around good/bad choices and consequences. It would also make a good resource that could be used to introduce and expose experiences of people's visual differences as the illustrations depict people of varying shapes, sizes, race and disabilities.
