Do Not Open This Book: A ridiculously funny story for kids, big and small... do you dare open this book?!

Children will love the silliness of this book, and if they're having it read to them they'll find the mounting anger that the reader has to feign to be hilarious. Although the book is written as if a child is reading it on their own it really is a good one for an adult to read aloud - part of the fun then is that the book forces otherwise quiet and patient adults to become as irate as the monster character himself. The size and positioning of the typesetting encourages children to work on their tone and expression and in that sense this book could be a great one to use to develop fluency in reading, particularly once it has been modelled by an adult as mentioned above. If you're after a pure reading for pleasure experience then this isn't a bad book to choose. The fact that it is a book about books, particularly about books being irresistible, might make it a good one to try out with reluctant readers.
