Two crabs live in a tiny rock pool. Today, Very Big Crab and Little Crab are on a trip to the sea and Little Crab is very excited. However, when Little Crab sees the size of the waves, he is not quite so confident. With some gentle persuasion from Big Crab, Little Crab quickly realises what fun the sea can be. Perfect for reassuring little children who are concerned about doing something for the first time, Don't Worry, Little Crab shows that a new experience can be both scary and exciting. Big Crab is so supportive, encouraging Little Crab to take things one step at a time. When he has overcome his fear and has discovered the delights of the sea, Little Crab's joy is infectious. The illustrations are delightful. Colourful spreads bring their watery world to life with the rock pool glowing with warmth and the shades of blue of the ocean stretching before them. Their eyes are so expressive and Big Crab takes such care of the little one, holding his claw, sheltering him when need be. Some pictures have a white background which really allows the reader to focus on the crabs' emotions. Children could create their own collage style pictures to create an underwater scene in Chris's style. Although I have referred to Little Crab as 'he', there is no mention of whether Little Crab is a girl or a boy, making it perfect for everyone to relate to. 48 pages / Ages 3+ / Reviewed by Sue Wilsher, teacher
