Synopsis
"The Dragon Detective Agency. Dirk Dilly speaking."
When a visitor turns up unannounced at Dirk's office with a new case for him and Holly to solve, all is not as it seems. A Sea Dragon has disappeared and the only clue left at the scene of the crime is the ashy outline of an elusive Sky Dragon.
As their investigations take them from a dodgy billionaire's HQ to the top of the city's tallest skyscraper, trouble is set to soar sky high for this dragon detective and his partner-in-solving-crime. Will they be able to hunt down the suspect and find the missing dragon before they both disappear into thin air?
The third instalment in a fun and action-packed detective series for fans of TOTO THE NINJA CAT, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON and Tom Fletcher's children's books!
Reviews
Sam
The Dragon Detective Series by Gareth P. Jones has to be one of the best children's fiction series the I have read this year. I absolutely love the unlikely detective duo, Dirk Dilly and Holly Bigsby.
Sky High is the third in the Dragon Detective series and although there is reference to characters and events in the earlier books, this book works just as well as a standalone read.
Dirk isn't usually hired by other dragons but when he finds a Sea Dragon hiding in his flat he finds it difficult to refuse. Particularly when the Sea dragon in question clearly lacks Dirks ability to stay out of sight of people.
So while Dirk is off looking for a missing dragon, his young investigative partner, Holly Bigsby, is keen to find out what Brant Buchanan, the founder of Global Sands, is up to. Why is he so desperate to hire her mother and what does he want with a top secret weapon?
This is an action packed adventure, featuring fast thinking Holly, Detective partner Dirk and school bully, turned good (well almost), Archie is a great read. Plenty of twists and turns to keep your reading, and guessing, and enough laughs to keep its reader amused.
There's plenty in this riveting tale to read and discuss, making it ideal for a lower KS2 whole class or guided read. I have no doubt that Dragon Detective Book 3, Sky High would make a great 'hook book' for a reluctant reader. A great Christmas stocking filler.
