Synopsis

Has someone ever taken something that belongs to you? Have you ever been angry and shouted? How did you feel? Did you clench your fists? Read about Sophie and Ethan, and what they did when they felt angry. Each book focuses on a different emotion, looking at why children may feel a certain way and how they can deal with their feelings. Every title features two stories, each told from a child's point of view, which involve common scenarios or situations. For example, the main characters interact with each other through the series, sharing experiences that readers can easily relate too. These sensitive stories reassure young readers and provide them with a vocabulary which helps them to express and understand their feelings as they grow up and encounter different situations. 'Story words' in each book explain words simply and gently. Beautiful, fun illustrations from an award winning illustrator, plus supporting text for parents and teachers ensure children get the most from the books.

Reviews

Jennifer

The 'Everybody Feels' series (see also 'Everybody Feels Happy / Sad / Scared') gives children an introduction to their feelings, helping them to cope with new emotions and experiences through events that are familiar to them. For younger children these books are a lovely way into understanding their own emotions. The illustrations are well drawn and engaging. Importantly, these books ground the emotions in 'real life' which enables young children to really make sense of these abstract ideas and the way they physically feel. Additionally, the stories provide children with real examples of when they might feel these emotions. These books would be great for use in the EYFS, either as part of whole class or group sessions. The series would also be very useful for pastoral support workers when doing 1:1 work with children about emotions. Another lovely element of these books is the glossary and information at the back, for those who want to take the work further there are some nice ideas for supporting activities. Overall, I would happily use these with the children I teach. Picture book / Ages 3+ / Reviewed by Jennifer Niblett, teacher.
