I stumbled upon this book when many teachers were talking about it on Twitter and, just to see what all the fuss was about, I decided to go out the next day and buy it. I'm glad I did! It is like no other book I've read before. It tells the story of Ghost, who ends up fleeing his house unexpectedly and as a result, finds himself perhaps behaving a little differently than he did before. Although never the model student, he now finds himself with a little more attitude, getting into a little more trouble and with mum working so many hours to make ends meet, having just that little bit more time to occupy on his own. After stumbling across a running club, he suddenly finds that he too can run. To tell you how it ends or even part of the journey he goes through would be telling and I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone but let's just say, everyone needs someone who they can rely on - someone who will never give up on them. While I picked 'issues' as the reference for this book, I also think this could go in the 'inspirational' category, too. It's been a major hit with my Year 6 class this year - I hope it will be in yours, too! 208 pages / Ages 9+ / Reviewed by Leanne Woolcock, teacher
