Hector and the Hummingbird is a fantastically funny story that can be enjoyed by both adults and children alike! The story follows Hector (the bear) and his friend Hummingbird (well...the hummingbird!) who are best friends... mostly. Hector finds himself annoyed by Hummingbird's constant chatter and storms off into the jungle. He soon realises that being alone is lonely and misses his friend...who has luckily follow him into the jungle! Every page has vibrant illustrations that are humorous and so detailed to look at. My class loved the way the font reflects the tone of the character - specifically when Hector shouts...'AAAAAAAAGH!'. The children related to the characters (both irritated hector, and chattery Hummingbird!) and there were full on belly-laughs at the end of the book! The last page has some animals that you can spot in the book, a great reason to go back and read the story again! I loved this book (as a 25 year old!) and can't wait to share it with more children. This was very popular with our whole class! Here are some individual thoughts... Ruby: Hector and Hummingbird is an amusing friendship-themed book which can be enjoyed by children of all ages. Every page is humour-packed and full of vibrant, colourful illustrations. This book shows the ups and downs of friendship. Full of comedy and detailed illustrations, it tells the story of Hector the bear and his best friend, hummingbird, when they fall out. This is an amazing, heart-arming story that children can relate to, and really know what the characters are going through. An easy to follow book that children will love. My favourite part is when Hector shouted 'Aaaaah!'. I would recommend it to 5-7 year olds because it is funny. Hector and Hummingbird is an entertaining book for younger children. It's about a bear called Hector and hummingbird who are best friends, mostly. Reuben: A fantastic children's book with exotic animals and colours. In hector and hummingbird, Hector tries to get some peace from Hummingbird who annoys him. He has a big strop and wanders off into the heart of the jungle. At night, he's scared of the sounds but it turns out Hummingbird was there all along and he tells hector a story. My favourite character is Hummingbird because he is very funny and cheeky. I would recommend this book for children aged 2+ and adults. The pictures are good for young children to look at and the adults would maybe giggle at the story! Samuel: Hector and Hummingbird is an entertaining book for both young and old. This book is a lesson not to be cruel to your friends! My favourite part was when at the end Hummingbird thought he was being quiet...but he was talking! I would say this book would be good for 0-9 year old children because over 10, you'd probably want to read chapter books. Reviewed by children in Class 6, Dringhouse Primary School.
