Synopsis

Lily and Blue Kangaroo are inseparable. Whatever Lily does, Blue Kangaroo does too. But Lily is not always fair, and when she is naughty it is Blue Kangaroo who gets the blame.

One day Lily is very bad indeed, and Blue Kangaroo is taken away from her and placed on a shelf downstairs until he learns to behave... But will he?

In the middle of the night Blue Kangaroo hops down from the shelf, draws a special picture saying 'sorry' and slips it under Lily's mum's door. Lily's Mum wants to know who drew the lovely picture. And Lily whispers, 'It was you, Blue Kangaroo!'

Taking responsibility for their actions can be something children find difficult. Owning up when you've done something wrong can be almost impossible for some children to do. However, Emma Chichester triumphs again with It Was You, Blue Kangaroo. We hear about Lily's mischievous behaviour again and how she blames all the naughty things she does on poor Blue Kangaroo. Blue Kagaroo does put up with a lot from Lily, but mum as always stands firm and Lily ends up having to take the consequences including not having Blue Kangaroo at bedtime. The only thing I would say is that I wish Blue Kagaroo had drawn a picture of Lily on his sorry sheet, as I would want to clarify clearly with the children I read this with that although Lily blamed blue Kagaroo, it was really her who did the wrong things. Emma Chichester Clarke is quite clearly well versed in looking after young children as again in this book she gets it spot on and creates another great way of discuss a common issue with young children. I think if you have preschool children at home any of Emma Chichesters books will be a great support to dealing with those tricky subjects. I've read three so far, but am going to definitely get the rest as I think they'll be a great set to have in school, especially to use in our early years settings.
