Mighty Max: A Bloomsbury Young Reader: Gold Book Band

Max is a big-eyed, sharp-toothed and spiky-tailed young monster who secretly lives with his family under the water of Blue Lake. He likes playing tricks and having fun, but his family gets annoyed with him for showing off. The trouble is, he has no-one to play with, so when he sees people on the banks of the lake, he can't resist showing himself and what he can do, despite the warnings of his family about the need not be seen. This is a sweet and brightly illustrated story, with some engaging details that highlights the perils of boredom and loneliness. The presentation of the book, with its large pictures and text and clear chapters, would make it good for readers transitioning from picture books to chapter books. Like all the books in the Bloomsbury Young Readers series, there are also tips for adults reading together with their children and for follow-up activities.
